The Australian Open gets under way in Melbourne at the Rod Laver Arena on 14th January and Roger Federer is as short as 8/13 to retain his title come 27th January.
The first Grand Slam event of the year saw new technology trialled in 2007 when for the first time in a Grand Slam the Hawkeye equipment was used in the Rod Laver Arena. Battling temperatures of 40 degrees the players produced a classic Grand Slam with Federer defeating Chilean Fernando Gonzaelz in straight sets to take the men's title while Serena Williams thrashed Maria Sharapova to claim the women's title.
