Manchester United Chelsea Clash is Coming Too Early, but for Whom?

September 19, 2008 - A.J Ryder Many football observers would consider Manchester United to be under the gun at this point in the season as a loss at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea would put them a full nine points off the pace, albeit with a game in hand. After a disappointing effort against Liverpool last weekend and a veritable stalemate at Old Trafford against Villareal in mid-week, United are under more pressure than Chelsea going into this encounter and I am confident that it will heavily influence the outcome of the match.

The one real shining point for the Red Devils during the midweek Champions League Clash was Cristiano Ronaldo's entrance into the game in the 60th minute. Several moments later, United broke into a counter-attack with five players running at the defense at pace. While the move didn't wind up placing the ball in the back of the net, it was testament to just how much Ronaldo brings to the United attack. He represents the wildcard and I am confident that this time, the wild card will become a pocket ace.

With John Terry having been gifted an entrance in this match thanks to an absolutely scandalous decision by the FA, Chelsea will be confident about this encounter. While Scolari is a master tactician and a true breath of fresh air for the Premier League, I cannot see Chelsea winning the match. I believe their finishing will be lax and their only threats will come from Lampard and Deco. United will deploy Anderson and quite possibly Hargreaves in the center of defense. Ronaldo will be deployed in his favourite right-wing/forward position and he knows this is the big stage and that he owes something to the United fans who stood by him this summer and cheered him heartily in midweek.

I would back United to win and United to draw considering that is where the value is. This is the match where United turn it all around.
