After having backed several successful upsets in the previous stages, I'm confident taht we'll see a few interesting outcomes happening in the days ahead.
Of primary concern to Phil "the power" Taylor is his upcoming match against Co Stompe. Taylor, backed to win at 1-16, is likely to come up against the most difficult competitor he's faced so far in this competition, but you've pretty much always got to back Taylor especially before he comes up against top competition like van Barneveld or Adrien Lewis. With Stompe listed at a mere 13/2 to pull off what would be the upset of the tournament, I don't see the value in taking a punt on Co. Your best bet on this one might be to get in on the live betting offered at a number of sites.
On January 1st, Mervyn King will be taking on Barrie Bates and, at 1/4, I'm quite confident that backing King will be worth the relatively small payoff. Bates doesn't have what it takes, not at this stage, and an upset (even an 11/4 upset) isn't valuable enough for me.
One match I'm definitely keeping my eyes peeled to is Daniel Larsson's match against Tony O'Shea. With Larsson available at a straight 3/1 against O'Shea's 1/5, I'm definitely seeing this as a money-making opportunity. Ditto the Darryl Fitton and Mark Salmon fixture. Salmon is also listed at 3-1 and I think that's pretty good value considering his overall track record and ability to perform on the big stage. Also competing on the 3rd will be Gary Anderson and Robert Wagner. I am definitely backing Wagner at 7/4.
